A living sculk organism that takes root in the world and never stops growing. It spreads tentacle arms across the terrain, freezes the ground it claims into sculk, and reaches further with every passing hour. Left alone, it becomes a continent of corruption.
The catalyst is a sealed sculk core that anchors to one spot and grows outward through writhing arms. Those arms hunt and lash at anything living that strays too close, and the ground beneath them turns to frozen sculk โ claimed territory that becomes part of the beast. It does not wander. It does not stop. It simply gets bigger, and its reach gets longer, until someone ends it.
The beast extends new arms continuously, sprawling across the map. A young catalyst can reach thousands of blocks from its core within hours.
Each arm independently seeks out and strikes living things near its tip โ players, animals, anything not part of the beast's faction.
The terrain the beast spreads over freezes into sculk. That ground becomes its territory โ and any sculk on claimed ground belongs to the beast.
The core summons armored sculk defenders and airborne flyers to protect itself when challenged โ and they swarm wherever the fight is.
The whole organism hangs on its anchor. Break the core and the beast dies โ then its claimed sculk slowly decays back into the world.
Engineered to run at extreme scale โ millions of blocks of sculk holding a steady tick rate, surviving restarts without missing a beat.
You don't out-muscle the catalyst โ you out-prepare it. The beast's arms and sentinels prioritize whoever carries the Bane, drawing their fury onto the wielder while a team strikes for the anchor.
The Sculk weapon (the Shrieker's Bane) is what lets you carve through frozen sculk and the beast's defenses. Carrying it marks you as the priority target.

Destroy the core and the entire organism dies. Its claimed sculk then decays away over time, returning the land.
Two companion systems ride alongside the catalyst, deepening the encounter.
Catalyst management is admin-only. These spawn, control, and clean up the beast and its event items.
